Kim & Gabe ║ Carmel, Indiana Engagement

Something that I love about my job is the ability to meet new people and learn new things through them. While Saturday morning was a little chiller than I had hoped for Kim and Gabe's engagement session, a cup of Starbucks before we started sure helped.

Gabe was able to clear up some of my confusion about the art of fly fishing and I was able to pick both of their brains on gardening. They both love to be outside and it was fitting for us to go to River Road Park, close to where they live. Kim and Gabe have been a committed item for many years now, but are looking forward to tying the knot it a few short weeks surrounded by their family and friends.

Wedding Photojournalist Association

I was happy to get my official note this week that I have been accepted into the WPJA. It is something I have thought about doing for several years. As my style have grown as a photographer, I have realized my strengths lie in capturing the moments, feelings and wedding day as it happens. My love for photojournalism began when I worked as a designated candid shooter for a lead photographer over several years. I love being able to tell a story with images.

My wish is for my couples to look at their pictures, 5, 10, 25 and 50 years down the road and to be able to relieve those moments and feelings, not just how gorgeous and fabulous they looked.

I will continue to photograph in a way that shows that love is beautiful.

Bathroom Remodel Finished ║ Broad Ripple Bungalow

Well folks, the long awaited final bathroom remodel pictures have arrived! Anyone who has taken on a major home improvement project knows that you are always committed to more work than you bargained for. In December we began the total remodel of our one and only bathroom, this post shows where we started. Halfway during the project we were in over our heads but moving forward. Unfortunately we did not get the project done before Christmas, as we would have hoped. After working so intensely on the project we needed a break before finishing the last 10%. The final pieces of custom trim were put into place and the final coats of trim paint were brushed on last week.

We are DIY people and enjoy the challenge of learning new skills (roofing might be next). Our home is a 1926 bungalow in Broad Ripple and we wanted to modernize our bathroom while keeping the character we love about the home. We were happy to be able to keep the original tub, which was in good shape but just needed re-glazing. We also kept the newer pedestal sink, window and door trim, and the top half of the plaster walls. Other than that, it's all new and been a labor of love. I have to give a shout out to our tile contractor, Eric Jensen at Jensen Tile - great work!

I am so happy with the final product, it feels like a different, bigger, better bathroom. For those of your familiar with the typical Broad Ripple bathroom, this is now a gem.

As part of our project we also tiled the kitchen floor and put baseboards up. We decided with a travertine, which has a unique look with no two squares of tile totally the same. It looks great with the granite counter tops. We also tied in natural stone in the bathroom with the mix of marble and subway tiles. I am happy that our house is fully modernized (new electric- thanks to Tim's dad, new plumbing, new kitchen/bath) but yet retains the charm that's so appealing about an older home.

A Taste of Philly in Indianapolis

So, I recently discovered a little gem just south of our home in Broad Ripple. On the corner of 42nd St. and College Ave., across from the library, is "A Taste of Philly", a hand-twisted soft pretzel bakery. In my opinion it's pretty hard to top the combo of a fresh soft pretzel, dipping cheese and a Coke. Heavenly snacking!

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I went there two days in a row. Day two I brought my camera - I had to share this find. Okay, okay... and I was lured in by their great special; 2 pretzels, cheese and Coke for $3! I hope other pretzel lovers out there will check this place out.

Drool on, blog stalkers, drool on...

My apologies for keeping my blog readers waiting, I've been pretty sick the last few days. More fun stuff to come on the blog, including the big reveal of our DIY bathroom remodel project!

Elite Bridal Consulting ║ Art of the Table ║ Indianapolis Museum of Art

This Sunday I attended the Art of the Table event hosted by the Association of Bridal Consultants at the IMA. It is an event where the great talent we have here in Indy is able to showcase designs for weddings and special events, all while raising money for charities. I was curious to see what the up and coming trends are in reception decor.

One of the designers at the show was Elite Bridal Consulting, who I had the opportunity to work with for Leslie and Antonio's wedding at the Yacht Club at Geist. On Sunday, Kyna and Camille showcased a table they design for a bridal shower soire titled "Little Black Dress". I really enjoyed the simple touches of jewelry that glammed-up the floral arrangements.

Seeing all of those great designed makes me look forward to seeing all of the details come together for my 2010 brides. I know they have been busy making their wedding uniquely theirs!

Beauty and Spring

With the warmer weather rolling in I can't help but be excited for the arrival of spring. Anyone else feel like this has been the longest winter ever?

At Balboa Park in San Diego, I was in total awe of the beauty of their orchid collection. What an amazing flower with gorgeous colors and dainty details. Maybe something that pretty could pop up in my yard this year?
